Between the British occupation of Montevideo in 1807 and the present day, hundreds of English-language periodicals have been published in Latin America. Most of these periodicals survived only a few issues, but some titles appeared regularly over several decades, and there are some that are still being produced. These periodicals are not only unique resources for the study of English-speaking communities in the region, but they also offer valuable insights into the political, economic and social development of individual Latin American countries and regions.
This volume provides details of approximately four hundred English-language newspapers, magazines, bulletins and other periodicals that were (or, in some case, still are) published in 22 Latin American countries or territories. Most of the listings feature details of the individual periodicals' history, ownership, editorial orientation and readership, together with bibliographical references.
